Medium to high to very high are more or less the same.I’m rather proud of this release. If you simply want better FPS, then why not adjust it manually? I mean, if you don't want reflection in the pools, then lower the details on the reflection part, etc.īasically as from the testing, the real difference between the details are between low lighting and medium lighting. It turns off some functions that are not in the sliders, which is really pointless. It uses a different rendering device and you lose so much of the details, lightings, shading, reflections, and what not. Which while annoying, is not game breaking. When I ran my game normally, before I turned laptop mode on, I saw no difference in the way the game looked or preformed, expect the the purple UI glitch. Even the lack of decent indoor lighting on laptop mode can be combated with more ceiling lights, I don't see why people consider laptop mode so horrible. I actually run my game on laptop mode, and the only thing that really bothers me is the fact that any accessories for the eyes, such as glasses or lashes, are purple in the UI picture. This is actually very realistic, if you turn on your light inside, it is harder to see the outside. In the medium setting, the window is reflecting the indoor light, hence the outside is harder to see. Look at the lighting/shading on the objects and the sims The differences are much more visible here. However, you can still see the subtle differences: The light reflecting off the seat cushion, the vase lighting, sims are darker under the parasol in the medium setting. The lighting on the objects in the medium setting changes depending on the time of day while the low setting there is barely any lighting on objects and they are static. One might simply say the medium setting is "brighter," but this is untrue. In the low screenshot, all objects are simply static lighted. In the low setting, the whole game is using static lighting, but with the medium setting, the object lighting is dynamic and reacts to the different time of day.Įven so, you can still see differences if you put them side by side: In the foreground room, you can tell the lighting on everything in the room is reacting to the light from the window. It is much more noticeable in the actual gameplay because the difference is the active lighting/shader. The differences are not as noticeable in still shots b/c you are looking for pixel differences. (With high AA - 12-13) On the outside shot, look at the fence shadows. I suspect that they simply increased the particle effects and the FPS hit is minimal. * I can't see any difference between medium and very high. If AA was on high, as in the low setting, it would be closer to 13-14) This is also to demonstrate the difference in detail between low/high AA is negligible. (Also note, I turned AA to low when I switched lighting to medium/very high, so the FPS was increased a little.

Look at the vase and the decoration on the coffee table. * Switch between low and medium has a significant FPS drop and the detail difference is somewhat noticeable. * Notice the low setting with all the suggested values above actually gives a good 25-30 FPS in game. This is done in Intel HD 4000, because in my Nvidia, FPS doesn't change at all since the card's recommendation is ultra. Here are some photos for your viewing with low, medium, and very high lighting. My guess is that by switching to medium, it actually turns on the shader. The one exception is " lighting." Lighting has the most difference between " low" and " medium" both in details and performance. I call this "broken mode." ( FPS hit: high)Įverything else can be set to low without much difference in performance or detail. ( FPS hit: moderate)Ĥ) Laptop Mode - Never turn this on. ( FPS hit: moderate)ģ) Post-processing - Set this to on, else you will not get global lighting, actual dynamic sun light etc. To be honest, there are very little difference between low and high, as long as you have it on at some level. Turning this off will give you jagged edging, etc. ( FPS hit: high)Ģ) Smoothness (Anti-Aliasing) - At least set this to low.

Setting this to low will greatly increase FPS, but you get that blue fog of war and you can't enjoy the background. Now, no matter what GPU you are using, I always recommend a couple of things:ġ) View Distance - Always set this on high. I've been testing these lately for some people, thought I post it here for others who are wondering about the graphical settings in TS4.
